Santa Clarita, California. – The University of Antelope Valley Men's baseball team took their three game winning streak on the road to Santa Clarita, California to take on the number eleven nationally ranked Mustangs of The Master's University
UAV 10 – The Master's University 1 (9 innings)
The Pioneers arrived at Lou Herwaldt Stadium riding the wave of a three game winning streak looking to continue their winning ways against one of the top baseball teams in the country. The past three victories for the Pioneers were victories that were the products of come from behind efforts. Today's baseball game was a supreme effort on the part of the Pioneers as they defeated the Mustangs by the score of 10-1. The game started off with a bang as Tyler Pittmon hit an infield homerun which set the tone for the Pioneers as they scored three runs in the first inning, giving them an early 3-0 advantage over the Mustangs. The Pioneers would score another three runs in the third inning and would hold the Mustangs scoreless through the first five and a half innings, leading by a score of of 6-1. The Pioneers would score four more runs in the seventh inning, winning the game by a final score of 10-1. Junior Luke Smith led UAV with three hits and three RBIs in the victory. This was the fourth straight victory for the Pioneers over a ranked opponent, bringing their record to 8-9. Coach Jacon Garsez was very happy with the team win and looked forward to building off of the victory. "Pittmon set the tone early with a home run, giving us early momentum. Luke Smith has been a steady part of our lineup all year and came up big for us again." A lot of contributors on the mound today, that competed well by answering the challenge to defend our early lead....a great overall team win." Our guys look forward to turning the page tomorrow at practice, in preparation for the start of conference play." The Pioneers will welcome La Sierra on Friday March 3 2017.
