The Pioneers set the tone early in the game against Saint Katherine College by opening the first inning with three scored runs and taking an early 3-1 lead after one inning. The Pioneers scored two more runs in the second inning, giving them an early 5-1 advantage that would seemingly give them complete control of the game. Saint Katherine College would rally against the Pioneers scoring five runs through the next six innings, setting up a scenario for a dramatic finish in San Marcos. The seniors put the stamp on the victory for the Pioneers. Seniors Layne Sutten and Travis Holm played big roles in in the victory. Holm earned the win for the Pioneers while Sutten got the save for the Pioneers. The end result was UAV prevailing with a 7-6 victory over Saint Katherine College. Head coach Jacob Garsez was very pleased with the team's victory over Saint Katherine College. "Our offense jumped on them early, by earning free passes and producing timely hitting. We got a quality effort out of Holm in his first start of the season and Sutten did a good job closing it out. A solid defensive performance allowed us to minimize their opportunities." The Pioneers return to The Hangar this weekend for a slate of conference games against Benedictine University at Mesa this upcoming Friday and Saturday.
