Lancaster, California. – The University of Antelope Valley Men's baseball team returned home to welcome the Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks for a slate of three games for the weekend. The Pioneers and the Redhawks both came into today's conference game undefeated and hoping to come out victorious. The Pioneers undefeated in the month of March and riding the momentum of a seven game winning streak looked to remain undefeated in conference play and also record an eighth straight win.
The start to this baseball game for the Pioneers wasn't much different than the start to most of the other games during the win streak; scoreless the first few innings yet creating opportunities for game changing plays. Five innings of play would see the Pioneers trail the Redhawks by a score of 4-0. The bottom of the sixth inning presented the opportunity for the Pioneers to get on the scoreboard for the first time of the day. Junior second baseman Luke Smith hit a sacrifice fly to deep center leading to Darron Teson scoring the first run of the game for the Pioneers. Junior infielder Tyler Pittmon hit a single leading to Mikey Perezenegron scoring the second run of the inning for the Pioneers. The final score of the game would come for the Pioneers in the bottom of the ninth inning when Logan Cordeiro hit a double leading to Travis Buziecki scoring on a run but it would not be enough as the Pioneers suffered their first loss in conference play by a score of 6-3.
The Pioneers will return to action tomorrow with a double header at The Hangar against Benedictine University at Mesa. The first game starts at 11:00 am with the second game falling soon after.
