Lancaster, CA. – Last night the University of Antelope Valley Baseball team shared the diamond with professionals in a midseason exhibition.
UAV 4 – Lancaster Jethawks 9
The opportunity to get better is something that every athlete relishes; the chance to work on your game with professionals makes hard work fun. Yesterday evening the Pioneers (22-13 overall, 12-3 CalPac) played a midseason exhibition game against the Lancaster Jethawks, the minor league affiliate of the Colorado Rockies. The Jethawks were using this exhibition game to fine tune for their season opener while the Pioneers were seizing the moment to not only play against professionals, but to also sharpen their games in their quest for a second consecutive CalPac Conference championship. The excitement in the air and the high energy on the field proved to be driving factors in the Pioneers great start to the game. Showing that they belong on the field, the Pioneers opened the first inning scoring three runs, including a two-run homer off the bat of Jake Harrison and taking an early 3-0 lead. Mikey Pereznegron led off the inning with a single, while William Garcia had an RBI double in the inning as well. The great start helped the Pioneers establish momentum early in the game. Head coach Jacob Garsez was extremely pleased with the effort his guys put forth and for the opportunity the Jethawks provided UAV Baseball. "UAV Baseball is extremely thankful for the opportunity the Jethawks provided us to play them. It is a quality experience for our guys to be on that stage, against that caliber of competition. Overall, a fun experience." The first inning was great, Mikey led off the inning with a single, Will came up big with an RBI double, and Jake capped it off with a home run providing some inspiration for our guys." "We look forward to using this as a confidence boost moving forward into the second half of conference play."
