Palmdale, California – The University of Antelope Valley Pioneers welcomed La Sierra University to the Best Of The West Pavilion for double header CalPac Conference action.
Game 1: UAV 7 LSU 2
A very sunny and windy day in Palmdale, California, the Pioneers began the first game of today's double header with all cylinders clicking. The first two innings of play would pass by with both teams tied at zero. The Pioneers struck first blood in the bottom of the third inning after a Cheyanne Haas double to shallow left center put the Pioneers in prime scoring position. Ashley Oakley, Cheyanne Haas and Erika Romero each stole a base in the bottom of the third inning, with Romero and Haas each scoring a run for the Pioneers. The fifth inning was an inning of Power for UAV as the Pioneers scored five runs. The Pioneers scored five runs on five hits. Sabrina Mansfield had a double in the inning while four other Pioneers had singles. The fifth inning proved to be the deciding factor as La Sierra would not score again, falling to UAV by a final score of 7-2. Great hitting was a decisive factor in the Pioneers game one victory as seven out of nine UAV players each had a hit with Sabrina Mansfield leading the way with two hits.
Game 2: UAV 10 LSU 9
The second game of the doubleheader saw the Pioneers taking the momentum from the first win against La Sierra and using the victory as fuel to have a repeat performance. The Pioneers continued their great hitting on the day in game two with four hits in the first inning which led to three runs scored. Erika Romero, Angelina Gonzalez, Sabrina Mansfield and Amber Adkins each singled in the first inning for the Pioneers with Romero, Manfield and Adkins scoring runs for UAV. Sabrina Mansfield continued her hitting streak with a double in the bottom of the third inning in addition to Chelsea Phillips doubling in the inning as well, leading to scores by Mansfield and Phillips respectively. The Pioneers had three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning which led to four runs being scored and giving UAV their second consecutive victory by a final score of 9-4. Sabrina Mansfield, Amber Adkins and Angelina Gonzalez each had three hits apiece in the victory.
The Pioneers return to doubleheader action tomorrow for CalPac Conference play against La Sierra.
