Mesa, Arizona. – Today the University of Antelope Valley Men's baseball team took the field for double header action against Benedictine University at Mesa.
Game 1: UAV 12 – BUM 0 (7 innings)
The Pioneers came into today's game against Benedictine University at Mesa looking to bounce back from yesterday's 5-3 loss to the Redhawks. The first two innings of play would see the game score tied at zero but from the top of the third inning onward, the game would belong to the Pioneers. Darron Teson put the Pioneers on the board by hitting a resounding homerun which went over the fence, followed by singles by Mikey Pereznegron and Adam Maciel. Pereznegron would also score a run in the third inning, giving UAV an early 2-0 lead over the Redhawks. Nick Robinson and Breyer Gayle scored two runs for the Pioneers in the top of the fifth inning when Darron Teson singled up the middle during his at bat. The sixth and seventh innings of play would be the deciding innings of the game as UAV scored eight runs in the last two innings of the game. The Pioneers scored four runs on six hits in the sixth inning (Teson single, Pereznegron double, Maciel double, Pittmon single, Smith single) and scored four runs on three hits (Smith single, Maciel single, Gayle double) in the seventh inning. The Pioneers won game one of the double header convincingly by a final score of 12-0. Dallas Litscher pitched seven innings for the Pioneers, giving up only three hits and zero runs.
Game 2 UAV 5 BUM 7
The Pioneers looked to build off of their game one win in the second game of the double header against the Redhawks. UAV started off the game with Mikey Pereznegron and Adam Maciel both singling for the Pioneers but UAV failed to score a run in the first inning. The Pioneers would remain scoreless through the first three innings of play until Jake Harrison hit a two run homerun in the top of the fourth inning giving the Pioneers their first scored runs of the second game. Tyler Pittmon would also hit a two run homerun for the Pioneers in the top of the ninth inning but the UAV would lose a close game to BUM by a final score of 7-5.
The Pioneers will take on Hope International University of the GSAC in a road game on April 18th.
