Lancaster, CA – The UAV Pioneers women's basketball added another player to their program with the signing of Rachel Friend, a forward from Capitol High School in Santa Fe New Mexico. The 5-foot-9 senior averaged 6.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3 blocks per game for the Lady Jaguars last season. Friend also was named 2nd Team All District for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons. Passion played a big part in Friend's decision to sign with the Pioneers. "I have chosen UAV because I look forward to a new experience playing the sport with a very passionate team." Head coach Jason Pruitt is excited about what Rachel will add to the team. "Rachel is a tough and physical post player that bolsters our inside presence right away," said head coach Jason Pruitt. "She is a hard-nosed rebounder, she lead the state of New Mexico in every classification. Rachel sets great screens and is extremely competitive. She is a great fit for the University of Antelope Valley on the court and in the classroom." Rachel will major in Sports Management.
Tiffany Perkins comes to the Pioneers program basketball from Los Angeles Trade Tech. Tiffany will bolster the inside presence for the Pioneers. Perkins received All Tournament in the Foothill Tournament her freshmen year and was also MVP of the Grossmont Tournament. She Made 2nd Team All-Conference, highlighted by a triple-double against Foothill when she amassed 10 points, 20 rebounds, and 10 blocks. "Tiffany Perkins has such natural basketball instincts and athleticism," Pruitt said. "She is a strong rebounder, shot blocker and runs the floor extremely well. She can play inside on the offensive end and has the ability to alter shots. She is driven, competitive and is a high motor player. Tiffany brings tremendous energy and aggressiveness to the court. She will be another very versatile athlete for our team and give us a strong inside presence." Tiffany will major in Business Management.
