Kansas City, MO. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics recognized three University of Antelope Valley Pioneers sports teams for their scholastic efforts during the 2016-2017 academic year. The UAV baseball, women's soccer, and volleyball teams were named Scholar-Teams. For a team to be considered for the NAIA Scholar-Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0-grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team grade point average includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
Baseball GPA: 3.21 Grade Point Average
Volleyball GPA: 3.16 Grade Point Average
Women's Soccer: 3.34 Grade Point Average
These teams have each been named Scholar-Teams in recent years; baseball and volleyball in 2015-2016 and women's soccer in 2014-2015. University of Antelope Valley President Marco Johnson was very proud of the academic honors achieved by the different sports teams. "We as an institution and community are extremely proud of this academic accomplishment by these student athletes. It's very impressive when a student athlete individually reaches such a nice feat. But, to have three of our teams pull this off as a whole, it's admirable and indicative of what Pioneer Nation strives for."
