Lancaster, CA – The University of Antelope Valley men's soccer team returned home today to engage in battle with The Master's University.
Today's battle could have easily been called the Battle of Highway 14 as only 45 miles separates these two campuses from each other. The Pioneers came into today's game fresh off of a weekend road victory over William Jessup University. The UAV fans were out in full support as both teams started the game looking to strike first blood. Physical on both sides of the ball, both teams entered halftime scoreless. The beginning of the second half would see a continuation of the defensive intensity and physicality exhibited in the first half. UAV's Manuel Medina would score the Pioneer's first goal of the day at the midway point of the second half. TMU would follow with a goal to tie the game 1-1. The regulation horn sounded with both teams tied at one apiece, forcing overtime to decide the winner. The Master's would score a goal in overtime, handing the Pioneers a heartbreaking loss by a final score of 2-1. Pioneers head coach Jarrod Cline spoke about the team having to finish games and limiting mistakes. "I felt we really controlled most of the game and had many good opportunities to put more goals in, so it was disappointing to be ahead and give up two goals and lose in overtime. We need to finish off games and work harder the entire match or we will find ourselves dropping more games in the same manner."
The Pioneers return to action on September 4th in a road contest at Vanguard University. Game time is 4:00 pm PST.
